The Bentzen Silverman Foundation believes literacy is a basic need, essential to the life of every child. We work with public schools and organizations to ensure all children have access to effective, evidence-based tutoring programs that are critical in grades K–2. Since 2012, we have helped over 20,000 children become confident readers in New York City and nationally.

What We Do

We create and sustain organizations that provide evidence-based literacy programs for children in grades K–2. Since 2012, we’ve dedicated over $20 million in direct funding to their work.

Our Grantees

Reading Go!

The foundation’s flagship program, Reading Go!, combines high-dose tutoring for K-2 students with comprehensive training for educators and school staff. For over thirty years, the program has used a multi-modal approach to provide targeted instruction and meaningful social-emotional support, helping children build the literacy skills they need to become confident readers. BSF acquired Reading Go! in 2012 to make the program available at low- or no-cost to public school students who need it most.
